The boston marathon preview!

Go on this link to have an idea of what is the Boston Marathon.

A.

The 2 last months before the Marathon Day.

February and March have been really busy months, but I had time to really improve my training. We also had good time with Michael enjoying the sun for outdoor lunch, having curry lunch at the Hospital and taking some picture to be on the wall of Fame of the MGH the week before and after the marathon.

February and March training was mostly focused on long run training:
02/18: 15 miles on marathon race.
02/25: 21 miles with the marathon team on the marathon race with some snow.
02/26: 18 miles on the marathon race.
03/07: Keystone Colorado, snow-boarding, work and training....2 hours running at 9000 ft High in colorado, this training was really tough and I had trouble to breath and keep a constant pace. I had to stop a lot and I was not able to follow James my australian  running partner. At least it was a good mental preparation but I was really looking forward coming back at the sea level for my next long run.

03/10:18miles on the marathon race with the MGH marathon team, I had a nice start around 8.45/mile pace to finish below 7.50/mile. After the mountain run I really needed to push a little to feel better.
03/18: Never run after a St-Patrick day. This sunday run was really tough as I did not fully recover from my St-Patrick party... I ran 13 miles around the Charles River and then I decided to move to a 25 miles road cycling to fully recover from this hard Irish week-end.
03/21: Second day of spring and the weather was looking like a nice summer day. We went with Nick and Sarah for a 6.30 am road cycling training. So happy to be back on the bike for the morning 30 miles.
03/24: Great training with the MGH marathon Team, we left by bus From Dr Weinstein's house and we started our run at the marathon starting line. That was the first time I trained on the downhill at the beginning of the race. I was running with Tracy, she is a really fast runner and we had a nice 8.01 /mile average pace on the 21 first miles to the top of the Heart break Hill.

03/26: Big day of frustration as I broke my favorite sneakers while training with my running club on track. I tried to sprint in a pursuit workout and the shoe totally dislocate. At least my ankle is OK, however I have to find a way to quickly have new shoes.

Tatane and Michael on their way to the Boston Marathon

Frid: 02-10-12:  A deep Breath!!!

February the 10th was a great day for me to begin a new challenge.
I had the chance to meet Michael and his mother Grace. Thanks to Dr Annah Abrams and Heather Peach from the MGH marathon Team I have been matched to Michael through the patient-runner partnership program and we are going to share together the 2012 Boston Marathon Project.
I met Michael at the hospital while he was having one of his chemo treatments. I was really excited, but also a bit stressed about not finding the words... In fact the first contact with Mike and Grace was easy and they were so nice that I was quickly feeling much more confident even with my funny accent and my English grammar mistakes.
During the time we spent together, we tried to introduce ourselves and talk about our passions. Mike and Grace were really curious and wondering what a Frenchy could be doing in Boston. I was so happy to show Mike that I just received my Boston Marathon confirmation of acceptance.  I had the feeling that the time we spent together made them happy too and this first meeting was for me a real source of motivation: Now I am going to run this marathon not only for me but also for Mike.

Mike is a really friendly and tough 16-year-old guy. He loves sport, he is a passionate Boston sport fan and especially of hockey "Go Bruins!!!!". With all his courage, the love of his friends and his family and the support from the medical staff, Mike is fighting against osteo-sarcoma.
Osteo-Sarcoma is a painful malignant form of bone cancer that has a high incidence in children. His long treatment includes heavy bone surgery combined with chemotherapy. Mike is a strong man. He has faced the treatment with so much motivation and faith, that his unwavering optimism suppressed many of the debilitating side effects of the treatment and each day he is getting closer to a full recovery.

2012 Patriot’s Day is going to stay in memory:

The 16 of April will be for all of us an exceptional Patriots’day. We will celebrate all together the MGH charity run for Michael and the other kids, but most importantly we will also celebrate the end of Michael’s long treatment, as he will receive his last chemotherapy injections the week before the Race. For Mike and his family, the marathon day will be the celebration of a new life without chemo, and it will be the beginning of intense physical therapy to completely recover his leg mobility.

Mike and his family are a real source of motivation for me. This project has now taken a new dimension and I will be as courageous as them to face the 26.2 miles marathon.

Keep going Mike !!

Back From Holidays on The World Cancer Day:

The saturday 4th of february was the world cancer day : http://www.worldcancerday.org/, it was also the day I came back from my nice family trip in Costa-Rica. I will upload pictures of this trip soon.

Happy New Year !!!!

Happy New Year to all of you! I wish you all the best for 2012.

December and beginning of January have been really busy and I was not able to really update the blog, I will try to be more efficient in 2012.

Since december I have done some really nice long run and I am starting now to focus my training on resistance by doing hills repeat..

Wed 12/7: First Marathon team meeting to present the MGH marathon team project to some of the 90 runners and to receive our package to register for the marathon.

Sat 12/10: Nice 10 miles run along the charles river with a little help of the wind on the way back. Time: 1h17; around 7.45 average pace per miles.

Mond 12/12: Indoor track running with coach Brian who set up a funny track bingo running. This Bingo game is based on 200m repeats which have to be done at specific pace to be able to fill your card. This workout was hard but really funny and really good to train for pace control.

Sat 12/17: 12 miles flat run along the river in 1h34 , average pace around 7.45/miles.

Mond 12/19: Nice 11 miles run with the community Running Club. Running is a really nice way to enjoy Boston by night  and to watch all the Christmas Lights.

Thurs 12/29: Back to training after a really nice Christmas Weekend with Friends From Boston who were not able to go back in their families for the Holidays.
It was also my first run since I turned on 30 on the 27 of december. Guess what.... Nothing changed; my legs are still the same and I feel as young as a week before...
I did a long Morning run along the river at low pace to warm-up for 10 times hills repeat in Beacon-Hill.

Wed 1/4: First 2012 indoor track training with coach Allison at the MIT. My legs are still a bit soared from the  funny new year eve night I had in Brookline, NY with some of my best French friends....
This training was hard and based on 6*800 m repeats at 5K pace.

Sat 1/7t: First team training with the MGH marathon team. Captain Jordan Gill proposed a long flat run training along the Charles River. This run was awesome, it was sunny and really warm.
I did 13 miles at 7.55 pace in 1h42. This run was really great and I was happy to see so many peoples from the Community Running Club Running running at the same time.

Wed 01/11: Indoor Track training with Coach Charlotte at the MIT. Nice workout based on 600m,800m,1000m,1200m,1000m, 800m,600m. The goal was to maintain the pace for the different repeat and I tried to do 600@ 43s/200m, 800 @ 46s/200m, 1000 @ 49s/200m and 1200 @ 52s/200m.

Sat 01/14: Winter is finally back in Boston and this was the first really cold run (-6C / 21F). I was suposed to join the MGH marathon team for a long run training but I missed the meeting time and I went for a 15miles run on the end of the Boston Marathon race. I focussed this workout on resistance and Hill running. I did 3 repeats of the famous Heart Break Hill and I was happy to be able to keep my average pace under 8 min per miles and finishing this workout in 1h58 min.

Sun 01/15: No running today but as the winter is back, the snow also arrived in New Hampshire and we went for a crazzy cold Snow-boarding session in mount Sunapee. The Snow and Weather were nice but the cold was terrible : (-20C/-1F).

First Training Update: Tatane on is way to the 2012 Boston Marathon

Tatane on his way to the 2012 Boston Marathon;

Sat 11/12: 10 miles running along the Charles River, Sunny cold and windy, my legs start to feel better and I start having better feelings after the first 5 miles.

Sat 11/19: long training along the Charles River, I haven’t trained since a long time for 13 miles and this day was perfect. After the first half, my legs were really doing better and I was really enjoying the second half. My half split was at 50min and I did it in 1h39 without pushing too much. I feel really better and the knee was not painful…. I hope it’s a good sign.

Mon11/21: indoors track training with the Boston Community Running club. Coach Brian prepared a 2*2miles tempo workout at the 10miles-hard half marathon pace. I choose to run around 51-52s per 200m. The first 16 laps were ok, I did 13,46 min ( 6,52 for the first mile and an average of 49-52s per 200m) the second 16 laps were harder and I did 13,54 min (between 50 and 54s  per 200m). This was a good workout but I need to do more stretching to recover better from long runs and being able to run faster on the track.

Sat 11/26: Nice Mountain run in Adirondack state park between Lake Placid and Wilmington, paced by Jess on her bike. Weather was perfect and the run was great, the 7” of snow from Tuesday were melting. We saw nice waterfalls and a huge beaver dam which was new for us as beaver are not common French animals. Whereas the landscape was great I am not going to lie… hills running is hard …

Mond 11/28: indoors track training with the Boston community running club. Coach Brian prepared a speed training. 2 repeats of 4 times (600m marathon pace + 200m 1mile pace). I did between 2,40-3,00 for the 600 and 0,34 to 0,38 per 200. The fourth repeat was really hard….

Wed 11/30: indoors track training with the Boston community running club. Coach Charlotte prepared a tempo training. 4 repeats of 600m ½ marathon pace + 400m 10 K pace and 200m 5k pace. I ran the ½ marathon pace around 0,50-0,51 per 200m, the 10K around 0,48-0,49 per 200m and the 5K pace around 0,45-0,46….

Sat 12/3: Nice sunny 8 miles running along the Charles River in 66 min.

Mond 5/12: indoors track training with the Boston community running club. Coach Brian prepared an Interval training. 4 repeats of 1800m: 3* (200m at 1/2 marathon pace; 200m 10 K pace and 200m 5k pace). I ran the ½ marathon pace around 0,51-0,53 per 200m, the 10K around 0,48-0,50 per 200m and the 5K pace around 0,45-0,47….
